Daily close and perpetual volume across tracked exchanges
Founded in 2014 as AntShares, NEO is one of the oldest smart contract platforms and among the first major blockchain projects from China. It uses a dual-token model, where NEO is held for governance and generates GAS, the token that pays network fees. Perps let traders short or lever this long-established altcoin without holding spot, and give long-term holders a way to hedge while they keep accruing GAS.
Older altcoins often rally together, and NEO tends to join those bursts of speculative volume. Binance leads on volume, and BingX runs a sizeable USDC-margined market next to its USDT one. Volume is modest compared with open interest on venues such as MEXC and Bitget, so small orders there can shift price. Watching open interest for sudden jumps helps spot when leverage is returning to this market.

NEO is a layer 1 smart contract platform that launched in 2014 as AntShares and rebranded in 2017. It uses delegated Byzantine Fault Tolerance consensus, where elected consensus nodes produce blocks with one-block finality. NEO holders vote in governance and earn GAS over time.

NEO is the governance token and cannot be split into fractions on chain. GAS is the utility token used to pay transaction and deployment fees. Holding NEO generates GAS, which gives holders a stream of fee-paying tokens and links the two prices loosely.
Neo N3 is the major network upgrade that launched in 2021, with a rebuilt architecture, built-in oracle and name services, and a new GAS distribution model. It replaced the older Neo Legacy chain, and holders migrated their tokens across to N3.

NEO was founded by Da Hongfei and Erik Zhang and began life as AntShares in China. The project grew quickly during the 2017 market cycle, when it was often called the Chinese Ethereum. Its founders remain closely involved in governance and the wider Neo ecosystem.
NEO perpetual futures are derivatives contracts that track the price of NEO and never expire. Instead of settling on a date, they use a funding rate to stay close to the spot price. You can go long or short with leverage without holding any NEO.
Funding is a payment between longs and shorts. When NEO perps trade above the index price, funding is positive and longs pay shorts. When they trade below it, shorts pay longs. Most exchanges settle every 8 hours and some, including Hyperliquid, settle every hour.

Coinperps does not give trading advice. Funding, open interest, the long/short ratio and liquidations show how other traders are positioned, but crowded positioning can last longer than expected. Size positions so a liquidation would not hurt you.
