Daily close and perpetual volume across tracked exchanges
THORChain is a cross-chain liquidity network that lets users swap native assets, such as bitcoin for ether, without wrapped tokens or a central custodian. Every liquidity pool pairs an external asset with RUNE, and node operators bond RUNE to secure the network. Perps give traders leveraged exposure to cross-chain swap activity, and a way to hedge RUNE held in pools or node bonds.
Swap volume drives fees, and fees drive demand for RUNE, so on-chain activity is the main signal for this market. Protocol incidents, governance decisions and changes to THORChain's products have caused sharp moves before. Binance carries most RUNE perp volume, with BingX, WhiteBIT and Bybit behind it, and Bybit and MEXC hold sizeable open interest. In thin books, liquidation cascades can exaggerate news-driven swings.

THORChain is a blockchain that runs a decentralised exchange for swapping native coins across different networks, including Bitcoin and Ethereum. RUNE is its native token, paired with every asset in its pools and bonded by node operators who secure the vaults holding user funds.

Pairing every pool with RUNE lets THORChain swap any supported asset for any other in two hops, with RUNE in the middle. It also means more liquidity in the pools requires more RUNE to sit alongside it, which links demand for the token to network usage.
Nodes lock RUNE as a bond that can be slashed if they steal or misbehave, and the system aims to keep that bond larger than the value of assets they help secure. This makes theft uneconomic and ties RUNE's value to the amount of liquidity on the network.

Swap volume, which generates fees for liquidity providers and nodes, is the main fundamental driver. RUNE also reacts to security incidents, governance decisions about protocol products and wider demand for decentralised cross-chain trading.
RUNE perpetual futures are derivatives contracts that track the price of RUNE and never expire. Instead of settling on a date, they use a funding rate to stay close to the spot price. You can go long or short with leverage without holding any RUNE.
Funding is a payment between longs and shorts. When RUNE perps trade above the index price, funding is positive and longs pay shorts. When they trade below it, shorts pay longs. Most exchanges settle every 8 hours and some, including Hyperliquid, settle every hour.

Coinperps does not give trading advice. Funding, open interest, the long/short ratio and liquidations show how other traders are positioned, but crowded positioning can last longer than expected. Size positions so a liquidation would not hurt you.
