Synthetix perpetual futures market

Synthetix is a DeFi protocol that provides liquidity for on-chain derivatives, originally through synthetic assets and the sUSD stablecoin. SNX holders stake their tokens as collateral that backs the system and earn a share of trading fees. Perps on SNX give traders exposure to a protocol whose own business is perpetual futures, and let stakers hedge the price risk of their locked collateral.

Activity on Synthetix-powered perp markets, fee income for stakers, the health of sUSD and governance changes to the token model all affect SNX. It also moves with the wider sector of decentralised derivatives. Perp volume is modest, led by Binance, with WhiteBIT, BingX and KuCoin also active. Low open interest means liquidation waves can be short and sharp, so sudden funding spikes should be read with that thin base in mind.

        What is Synthetix (SNX)?

Synthetix is a decentralised derivatives protocol whose stakers provide the collateral that backs trading on its markets. Users stake SNX, can mint the sUSD stablecoin against it, and earn fees from trading activity. Over the years its focus has shifted from synthetic assets towards perpetual futures.

        What is sUSD?

sUSD is a stablecoin minted by SNX stakers against their collateral, designed to hold a value of one US dollar. It is used across the Synthetix system for trading and settlement. Periods when sUSD has traded away from its peg have weighed on confidence in the protocol.

        How do SNX stakers earn?

Stakers lock SNX as collateral and receive a share of fees generated by trading on Synthetix markets, and in some periods token rewards as well. They also take on risk, because their collateral backs the system's debt. That exposure is one reason some stakers hedge with SNX perps.

Is SNX a perp DEX token?

Partly. Synthetix supplies liquidity and infrastructure for perpetual futures and has powered front ends built by other teams, such as Kwenta. SNX therefore tends to react to news about the decentralised perps sector. The top decentralised perpetual exchanges page covers the wider market.

        What are SNX perpetual futures?

SNX perpetual futures are derivatives contracts that track the price of SNX and never expire. Instead of settling on a date, they use a funding rate to stay close to the spot price. You can go long or short with leverage without holding any SNX.

        How does SNX funding work?

Funding is a payment between longs and shorts. When SNX perps trade above the index price, funding is positive and longs pay shorts. When they trade below it, shorts pay longs. Most exchanges settle every 8 hours and some, including Hyperliquid, settle every hour.

Where can I trade SNX perpetuals?

Compare venues, fees and features on the best perpetual exchanges page.

Should I long or short SNX?

Coinperps does not give trading advice. Funding, open interest, the long/short ratio and liquidations show how other traders are positioned, but crowded positioning can last longer than expected. Size positions so a liquidation would not hurt you.
