Daily close and perpetual volume across tracked exchanges
Storing large files such as images, video and AI datasets is the job of Walrus, a decentralised storage network created by Mysten Labs, the team behind Sui. Walrus uses Sui for coordination and payments, and WAL is the token used to pay for storage and to stake with storage nodes. Perps give traders a leveraged way into the Sui ecosystem's infrastructure theme, and a way to hedge staked WAL.
Binance and BingX carry most of the volume, with Bybit holding a similar share of open interest to those two. WAL tends to trade with SUI, so SUI perps are a useful guide to direction. Storage demand on the network, new apps choosing Walrus, and scheduled token unlocks for investors and contributors are the project-level drivers that can pull it away from the wider Sui trade.

Walrus is a decentralised storage protocol for large files, known as blobs, built to work with the Sui blockchain. It splits data into encoded pieces spread across many storage nodes, so files can be rebuilt even if some nodes go offline. WAL pays for storage and secures the network through staking.

Walrus was created by Mysten Labs, the company that built Sui, and uses Sui as its control layer for payments, storage records and node coordination. Apps on Sui and other chains can store data on Walrus, and WAL often follows sentiment toward the wider Sui ecosystem.
WAL holders delegate tokens to storage nodes, which earn rewards for storing data reliably, and nodes with more stake take on more data. Unstaking takes time, so some holders use short perps to hedge price exposure while they keep earning rewards.

Both are decentralised storage networks. Walrus relies on Sui for coordination and focuses on fast access to large blobs using erasure coding, while Filecoin runs its own blockchain with storage deals and proofs of storage. They compete for similar users with different designs.
WAL perpetual futures are derivatives contracts that track the price of WAL and never expire. Instead of settling on a date, they use a funding rate to stay close to the spot price. You can go long or short with leverage without holding any WAL.
Funding is a payment between longs and shorts. When WAL perps trade above the index price, funding is positive and longs pay shorts. When they trade below it, shorts pay longs. Most exchanges settle every 8 hours and some, including Hyperliquid, settle every hour.

Coinperps does not give trading advice. Funding, open interest, the long/short ratio and liquidations show how other traders are positioned, but crowded positioning can last longer than expected. Size positions so a liquidation would not hurt you.
