Matter Labs built ZKsync, an Ethereum layer 2 that uses zero-knowledge proofs to bundle transactions and settle them on Ethereum. ZK is its governance token, distributed partly by airdrop when it launched in 2024. Through the ZK Stack, other teams can launch their own chains connected to ZKsync. Perps let traders take a leveraged view on ZKsync's progress or hedge holdings against Ethereum-wide weakness.
Layer 2 tokens tend to trade as a group, so Ethereum sentiment and rollup news often move ZK as much as ZKsync-specific updates. Supply is a major factor, since large shares of the token are allocated to investors and the team on vesting schedules. Binance leads on volume, followed by Bybit, OKX and BingX. Funding that turns negative before unlock dates is a common sign of hedging ahead of new supply.

ZKsync is a zero-knowledge rollup that processes transactions off Ethereum and posts validity proofs back to the main chain. It supports Ethereum-compatible smart contracts and native account abstraction. The ZK token governs the protocol and the wider network of chains built with its ZK Stack.

ZKsync uses validity proofs, so Ethereum verifies each batch cryptographically, while Arbitrum and Optimism are optimistic rollups that assume batches are valid unless challenged. Validity proofs avoid the week-long challenge window for withdrawals. All three tokens mainly serve governance and tend to move together with layer 2 sentiment.
Yes. ZKsync distributed part of the ZK supply to users and ecosystem contributors in June 2024, when the token launched. Selling by airdrop recipients and later unlocks for investors and the team have been recurring sources of supply that ZK perp traders watch.

Yes. ZKsync settles on Ethereum and its token trades as part of the layer 2 group, so moves in ETH often spill over into ZK. Comparing ZK funding with ETH perps helps show whether a move is specific to ZKsync or part of a wider market swing.
ZK perpetual futures are derivatives contracts that track the price of ZK and never expire. Instead of settling on a date, they use a funding rate to stay close to the spot price. You can go long or short with leverage without holding any ZK.
Funding is a payment between longs and shorts. When ZK perps trade above the index price, funding is positive and longs pay shorts. When they trade below it, shorts pay longs. Most exchanges settle every 8 hours and some, including Hyperliquid, settle every hour.

Coinperps does not give trading advice. Funding, open interest, the long/short ratio and liquidations show how other traders are positioned, but crowded positioning can last longer than expected. Size positions so a liquidation would not hurt you.
