Google's parent company Alphabet owns Search, YouTube, Android, Google Cloud and the Gemini AI models, plus long-term bets such as Waymo. GOOGL perps are crypto-settled contracts that track its Class A share price on Nasdaq. Traders use them for long or short exposure to big tech with stablecoin margin, to hedge AI and advertising risk, and to react to news when Wall Street is closed.
Quarterly earnings are the biggest scheduled event, with advertising revenue, cloud growth and AI spending under the most scrutiny. Antitrust rulings in the US and Europe and AI product launches can also move the price outside earnings season. Binance and tradeXYZ on Hyperliquid carry nearly all the volume, and tradeXYZ holds the larger open interest. Overnight and weekend trading can leave the perp away from the last Nasdaq close until the market reopens.

The open-interest-weighted GOOGL funding rate is +0.0102% per 8 hours, or +11.18% annualised. Positive funding means longs pay shorts. Across exchanges it ranges from 0.0000% on Gate to +0.0380% on Bybit. Compare all funding rates.
Alphabet is the holding company created in 2015 to own Google and its other businesses. Its revenue comes mainly from advertising on Search and YouTube, with Google Cloud a growing contributor. The company also runs Waymo, its self-driving unit, and develops the Gemini AI models.
GOOGL is Alphabet's Class A stock, which carries voting rights, while GOOG is Class C stock with no votes. Both share the same economic interest in the company and usually trade at very similar prices. GOOGL perps track the Class A shares.
No. GOOGL perps are crypto-settled contracts that track Alphabet's share price, so holders own no shares and receive no dividends or votes. Profit and loss is paid in stablecoins, and the funding rate keeps the perp in line with the stock instead of an expiry date.
Alphabet reports after the US market close, and the perp reacts straight away while the stock waits for after-hours or next-day trading. Advertising growth, cloud margins and capital spending on AI are the figures traders focus on. Liquidations can cluster in the hours after the report when the move is large.
GOOGL perpetual futures are derivatives contracts that track the price of Alphabet and never expire. They settle in crypto, usually USDT or USDC, so you get long or short price exposure with leverage without owning shares. A funding rate keeps the contract close to the reference price.
Funding is a payment between longs and shorts. When GOOGL perps trade above the reference price, funding is positive and longs pay shorts. When they trade below it, shorts pay longs. Most exchanges settle every 8 hours and some, including Hyperliquid, settle every hour.
GOOGL perps trade on 9 tracked exchanges. By volume the largest are Binance, tradeXYZ and OKX. Compare fees and features on the best perpetual exchanges.
Coinperps does not give trading advice. Funding, open interest, the long/short ratio and liquidations show how other traders are positioned, but crowded positioning can last longer than expected. Size positions so a liquidation would not hurt you.
