Kava is a layer 1 blockchain that combines a Cosmos SDK chain with an Ethereum-compatible chain, letting developers deploy EVM apps while connecting to the Cosmos network through IBC. KAVA secures the network through proof-of-stake and is used for governance. Traders use KAVA perps for leveraged exposure to one of the older Cosmos-linked layer 1s, to short it, or to hedge staked KAVA without unbonding.
Compared with the major layer 1s, KAVA is a smaller, quieter perps market, and Binance carries a large share of both volume and open interest, with BingX and WhiteBIT next. Thin books elsewhere mean a big order or a cluster of liquidations can move price sharply. Watch for staking, tokenomics and partnership news, and compare KAVA with other Cosmos tokens on the funding rates page to see whether a move is sector-wide.

Kava is a proof-of-stake layer 1 blockchain that runs an EVM chain and a Cosmos SDK chain side by side within one network. It started as a DeFi lending platform in the Cosmos ecosystem and grew into a general smart contract chain. KAVA is used for staking and governance.

Kava's co-chain design pairs an Ethereum co-chain, which runs Solidity smart contracts, with a Cosmos co-chain that links to other IBC chains. A translator module connects them, so assets can move between the EVM and Cosmos sides. The goal is to serve developers from both ecosystems on one network.
Kava connects to the Cosmos ecosystem through IBC and shares investors and narratives with other Cosmos chains. Developments that lift or hurt sentiment toward Cosmos, such as interchain upgrades or major chains leaving the ecosystem, often show up in KAVA funding as well.

Staked KAVA is locked with validators and takes several weeks to unbond, which reduces the number of tokens readily available to sell. Holders who want to protect staked positions from price drops can short perps instead of unstaking, which can add steady short interest to the market.
KAVA perpetual futures are derivatives contracts that track the price of KAVA and never expire. Instead of settling on a date, they use a funding rate to stay close to the spot price. You can go long or short with leverage without holding any KAVA.
Funding is a payment between longs and shorts. When KAVA perps trade above the index price, funding is positive and longs pay shorts. When they trade below it, shorts pay longs. Most exchanges settle every 8 hours and some, including Hyperliquid, settle every hour.

Coinperps does not give trading advice. Funding, open interest, the long/short ratio and liquidations show how other traders are positioned, but crowded positioning can last longer than expected. Size positions so a liquidation would not hurt you.
