STEPN, the move-to-earn app that rewards users for walking or running with NFT sneakers, issues GMT as its governance token. GMT is also spent on higher-level sneaker upgrades and other in-app features. The token peaked during the 2022 move-to-earn craze and has traded as a speculative altcoin since. Perps let traders go long or short GMT with leverage, mostly on sentiment toward Web3 lifestyle and gaming apps.
STEPN's user activity, new products from its developer Find Satoshi Lab and changes to how GMT is used in the app are the project-specific drivers. GMT also follows the broader altcoin market. Binance leads perp volume, with Bybit second, and liquidity drops quickly after that. In a thin market like this, a funding rate that stays far from zero usually reflects one side crowding in more than a lasting shift.

Move-to-earn apps reward users with tokens for physical activity tracked by their phones. STEPN popularised the model in 2022, when demand for sneaker NFTs and rewards drove a sharp rally in GMT. The model depends on new users and token demand, so prices swung heavily once growth slowed.
GST is STEPN's in-app reward token, earned by moving and spent on repairs and upgrades, with no fixed supply cap. GMT is the governance token, with a fixed maximum supply and broader uses across the app. Perps on major exchanges track GMT.

STEPN's user activity, new features from Find Satoshi Lab and changes to how GMT is used in the app are the project drivers. Wider sentiment toward Web3 gaming and altcoins matters too. With modest perp liquidity, large orders and liquidation waves can exaggerate moves.
GMT perpetual futures are derivatives contracts that track the price of GMT and never expire. Instead of settling on a date, they use a funding rate to stay close to the spot price. You can go long or short with leverage without holding any GMT.
Funding is a payment between longs and shorts. When GMT perps trade above the index price, funding is positive and longs pay shorts. When they trade below it, shorts pay longs. Most exchanges settle every 8 hours and some, including Hyperliquid, settle every hour.

Coinperps does not give trading advice. Funding, open interest, the long/short ratio and liquidations show how other traders are positioned, but crowded positioning can last longer than expected. Size positions so a liquidation would not hurt you.
