Best Crypto Exchanges in Spain for 2026

Key takeaways

  • Kraken is the best crypto exchange in Spain: it holds a MiCA licence from the Central Bank of Ireland that the CNMV lists for Spain, adds regulated futures through a CySEC licence and charges nothing for SEPA Instant deposits.
  • Only licensed exchanges may serve Spain since 1 July 2026: the MiCA transition ended that day, so Binance stopped taking Spanish customers and its existing users can only withdraw, while Bitget has no licence at all.
  • Banks charge more than exchanges: a €1,000 Bitcoin purchase costs €14.90 in fees at BBVA or Openbank but €2.50 on Bitvavo, and only some bank offers let you move coins to your own wallet.
  • Every crypto gain is taxable in Spain: profits, including crypto-to-crypto swaps, fall in the savings base at 19% to 30%, and coins held with foreign exchanges above €50,000 must be declared on Modelo 721.

Since 1 July 2026, only crypto exchanges authorised under the EU's Markets in Crypto-Assets Regulation (MiCA) may serve customers in Spain. The National Securities Market Commission (CNMV) supervises them, and its list now replaces the old Bank of Spain register.

Kraken, Bit2Me, Bybit EU, OKX, Bitvavo, Bitpanda and Coinbase all appear on the CNMV list. Binance has stopped onboarding Spanish customers, and Bitget, MEXC and HTX hold no EU licence.

The European Central Bank's consumer survey found that 9% of Spanish adults owned crypto in 2024, up from 4% in 2022, and BBVA, Openbank and Renta 4 now sell Bitcoin inside their own apps.

We checked every licence against the CNMV list of crypto-asset service providers, compared euro deposits and spot fees, and weighed the results against our exchange rankings.

This guide to the best crypto exchanges in Spain puts spot trading first and treats regulated futures as a bonus. It is not tax or legal advice.

Kraken is the best crypto exchange in Spain because it combines a MiCA licence for spot trading with a separate EU licence for futures, free euro deposits and more than 600 coins in one account.

Spanish customers contract with Payward Europe Solutions Limited, which the Central Bank of Ireland authorises as a crypto-asset service provider (CASP). The CNMV list shows it may serve Spain from 25 June 2025, and Kraken's Spanish licensing page names Spain among its EEA markets.

SEPA and SEPA Instant deposits are free from Kraken's side, with a €1 minimum, while debit cards cost €0.25 plus 3.75%. Each customer also receives a personal German IBAN through its partner Banking Circle.

Kraken Pro charges makers 0.40% and takers 0.80% at the lowest tier, under the cross-platform tiers introduced on 9 July 2026. Instant buys in the app cost 1% plus a spread, so regular buyers pay less on the Pro order book.

Derivatives come from Payward Europe Digital Solutions (CY) Limited, which holds licence 342/17 from the Cyprus Securities and Exchange Commission (CySEC). Kraken launched these futures for European clients on 20 May 2025, and access requires an appropriateness test.

Kraken's proof of reserves for 30 June 2026 shows 102.9% Bitcoin backing, and it has sponsored Atlético de Madrid since the 2024-25 season. Our Kraken restricted countries guide covers regional access, or open an account through Kraken.

Pros

  • MiCA and CySEC licences, so spot and regulated futures share one account.
  • Free SEPA Instant deposits to a personal IBAN.
  • More than 600 coins and a published proof of reserves.

Cons

  • Base Kraken Pro fees rose to 0.40% / 0.80% in July.
  • Card deposits cost 3.75% plus €0.25.
  • Deposits go to a German IBAN, with no Spanish option.

Bit2Me is the strongest Spanish option, a company founded in 2014 that became the first Spanish crypto firm authorised by the CNMV under MiCA.

The CNMV authorised Bitcoinforme S.L., the company behind Bit2Me, by resolution of 28 July 2025, and it has operated under MiCA since 31 October 2025. Bit2Me was also the first firm on the Bank of Spain's crypto register, in February 2022.

Its shareholders include Telefónica, Unicaja and Cecabank. Tether led a €30 million round in August 2025, and Bankinter joined it in January 2026. Bit2Me reported more than 1.3 million clients and €5.346 billion in business volume for 2025.

Fees are higher than at most rivals. The wallet app charges a 0.95% fee plus a spread of up to 1.20%, and the entry tier on Bit2Me Pro is 0.50% maker and 0.60% taker, falling to 0.20% / 0.30% above €2,000 a month.

SEPA and SEPA Instant deposits are free, as are withdrawals. Cards, Apple Pay and Google Pay can cost up to 1.99%, and a €10 monthly inactivity fee applies to dormant accounts.

Bit2Me lists more than 300 coins, runs recurring buys and offers a free FIFO tax report with a step-by-step guide to the Spanish income tax return. As a Spanish custodian, Bit2Me reports to the tax agency itself, so its balances stay outside Modelo 721. It offers no futures and publishes no proof of reserves.

Pros

  • A Spanish company authorised by the CNMV, with Spanish phone support.
  • Free FIFO tax report built for the Spanish return.
  • Backed by Telefónica, Unicaja, Cecabank, Bankinter and Tether.

Cons

  • App purchases cost about 2% once the spread is included.
  • No futures and no published proof of reserves.
  • A €10 monthly fee on inactive accounts.

Bybit tops our global exchange rankings with a score of 9.5 out of 10, and its Vienna-based arm, Bybit EU GmbH, offers Spanish residents a MiCA-licensed version.

Austria's FMA authorised Bybit EU on 28 May 2025, and the exchange launched in Spain through that passport in October 2025. SEPA deposits are free, the card fee is 1.1% for EU Visa and Mastercard, and Apple Pay and Google Pay cost 1.8% plus €0.24.

Since 5 October, spot trading uses one flat rate of 0.25% for makers and takers below €100,000 of monthly volume. One-Click Buy carries a spread of 1.30% on weekdays and 1.80% at night and weekends, so the order book is cheaper.

Spanish residents get spot trading, spot margin and recurring buys, but no perpetual futures until its MiFID II licence, applied for in September 2025, comes through. The EU platform lists about 110 coins.

Bybit lost about $1.5 billion in ETH to a North Korean hack in February 2025 and covered client losses in full. Compare it with Kraken in our Bybit vs Kraken guide, or sign up through Bybit.

Pros

  • The highest-rated exchange group in our rankings, with a MiCA licence.
  • Card deposits at 1.1%, cheaper than most rivals.
  • A Spanish-language interface and local team.

Cons

  • No perpetual futures for Spanish residents yet.
  • Spot fees rose to a flat 0.25% in October.
  • About 110 coins on the EU platform.

OKX is the cheapest exchange here for active traders who open its regulated futures account, and it publishes the most frequent proof of reserves.

OKX Europe Limited holds a MiCA licence from the Malta Financial Services Authority (MFSA). OKX launched in Spain on 24 June 2025 with full Spanish-language support, and the CNMV lists it from 27 November 2025.

The EEA fee schedule charges 0.20% maker and 0.35% taker, falling to 0.08% and 0.10% for users who also open an X-Perps account. SEPA and SEPA Instant deposits are free from OKX, and Buy/Sell orders carry a spread of up to 1%.

X-Perps, launched on 15 April 2026, are five-year futures with a funding rate, so they trade like perpetuals. OKX Europe Markets Limited issues them under MiFID II across the EEA, with fees of 0.02% maker and 0.05% taker.

OKX's 48th proof of reserves shows $29.4 billion in primary assets and 110% Bitcoin backing. In February 2025 its parent pleaded guilty in the US to unlicensed money transmission and agreed to pay about $505 million. Compare it with Kraken in our OKX vs Kraken guide.

Pros

  • 0.08% / 0.10% spot fees with an X-Perps account.
  • Regulated perpetual-style futures under MiFID II.
  • Monthly proof of reserves with 110% Bitcoin backing.

Cons

  • 0.20% / 0.35% spot fees without X-Perps.
  • A US guilty plea in 2025 over anti-money laundering failures.
  • Card fees are not published.

Bitvavo is the cheapest app for buying crypto in Spain, at 0.25% per purchase with no added spread, and it is the only exchange here with a Spanish deposit IBAN.

The Amsterdam exchange holds a MiCA licence from the Dutch Authority for the Financial Markets (AFM), listed by the CNMV from 14 July 2025. Euro deposits go to a Spanish IBAN with a reference code, so Spanish bank transfers arrive within one business day.

Its fee table charges makers 0.15% and takers 0.25% below €100,000 of monthly volume, and app purchases pay the same 0.25%. Bitvavo's pricing policy states it adds no hidden spread. SEPA deposits are free, while cards, Apple Pay and PayPal cost 1%.

Bitvavo lists about 450 coins, runs recurring buys and staking, and gives Spanish users 30% off its tax partner TaxDown. Its proof of reserves, dated 31 March 2026 and attested by The Network Firm, shows full backing for major coins. There are no futures.

Pros

  • 0.25% app purchases with no added spread.
  • A Spanish deposit IBAN and about 450 coins.
  • A TaxDown partnership for the Spanish return.

Cons

  • No futures.
  • Card and PayPal deposits cost 1%.
  • A restructuring with layoffs was announced in September.

Bitpanda suits investors who want crypto, stocks, ETFs and metals in one app, with more than 650 crypto-assets.

Spanish customers contract with Bitpanda GmbH, which Austria's FMA authorised under MiCA on 9 April 2025 and the CNMV lists from 14 April 2025.

The app builds its fee into the price, and its Spanish cost disclosure, dated 8 July 2026, sets 0.99% for Bitcoin and stablecoins, 1.49% for most other coins and 2.49% for small caps. Bitpanda Fusion, its order-book platform, charges 0.25% for makers and takers below €100,000 a month.

SEPA deposits are free and PayPal costs 1.49%. Bitpanda runs savings plans and staking, keeping 20% of rewards, and offers long-only spot margin of up to 10x. Its own tax report covers Austria only, so Spanish users must export their data.

In August the FMA fined Bitpanda GmbH €70,000 for MiCA breaches in its marketing, the regulator's first published MiCA penalty.

Pros

  • More than 650 coins plus stocks, ETFs and metals.
  • 0.25% Fusion fees and savings plans.
  • PayPal and SEPA Instant funding.

Cons

  • App purchases cost 0.99% to 2.49%.
  • No perpetual futures and no Spanish tax report.

Coinbase is the only publicly listed exchange here, and it has been supervised in Spain since it registered with the Bank of Spain in September 2023.

It now serves Spain under a MiCA licence from Luxembourg's CSSF, and Spanish customers moved to Coinbase Luxembourg S.A. on 13 October 2025.

Coinbase cut its Advanced fees on 16 September, setting the EU entry tier at 0.25% maker and 0.50% taker. The simple app charges more through a spread and a payment fee. Spain is one of three EU countries where customers can add cash by card.

On 9 March 2026 Coinbase launched regulated futures in Europe through a CySEC-licensed firm, including perpetual-style contracts with a five-year term. Check that your account shows them before you plan around futures.

A May 2025 data breach exposed customers' personal details after support contractors were bribed. In November 2025 the Central Bank of Ireland fined Coinbase Europe €21.46 million for transaction monitoring failures. Open an account through Coinbase.

Pros

  • Publicly listed, with a Spanish registration since 2023.
  • 0.25% / 0.50% Advanced fees since September.
  • Card top-ups to the euro balance are allowed in Spain.

Cons

  • The simple app adds a spread and a fee.
  • A €21.46 million Irish fine for monitoring failures in 2025.
  • The 2025 support data breach.

How We Ranked These Exchanges

We ranked exchanges first on whether the CNMV lists them as authorised to serve Spain, then on spot fees, euro funding, coin choice and Spanish-language support, using our ranking methodology.

Licence status came from the CNMV list dated 14 October 2026 and the ESMA interim MiCA register, both downloaded on 18 October, and fees from each exchange's published schedule. An exchange closed to new Spanish users could not make the list, whatever its global score.

Our exchange rankings, which score liquidity, fees, regulation and features, set the order among licensed venues. Bybit and OKX rank highest globally. Kraken takes first place in Spain because it pairs MiCA authorisation with regulated futures and free instant deposits, and Bit2Me ranks second as the strongest Spanish-licensed firm.

Futures counted only as a tiebreaker, so cheap spot trading and euro funding outweighed extra leverage.

How Coinperps filtered global exchange scores through the CNMV licence list to rank exchanges for Spain

Buying, holding and selling crypto is legal in Spain, as long as you use a provider authorised by the CNMV or by another EU regulator that has passported its licence into Spain.

MiCA and the CNMV

MiCA has applied across the EU since 30 December 2024. Spain's securities law, Ley 6/2023, names the CNMV as supervisor of crypto-asset service providers and the Bank of Spain as supervisor of stablecoin issuers.

The government announced a 12-month transition in 2023 but never legislated it, so firms already operating could continue until 1 July 2026, as the CNMV's MiCA Q&A confirms. In a statement on 15 June 2026, the CNMV said only authorised providers could operate after that date, and unauthorised firms had to give clients a plan to withdraw their assets.

The Bank of Spain's old register of crypto exchange and custody providers closed on 1 July 2026. That registration only checked anti-money laundering procedures, so an exchange that still advertises it has proved nothing about MiCA.

Spanish and Passported Licences

Sixteen firms based in Spain appear in the ESMA register. Bit2Me, Criptan and Prosegur Crypto hold full CASP authorisations, while BBVA, Openbank, CaixaBank, Kutxabank, Renta 4 and Cecabank notified the CNMV under Article 60 of the MiCA regulation, the shorter path for banks.

Another 194 foreign providers have passported their licences into Spain, including Kraken (Ireland), Bybit EU (Austria), OKX (Malta), Bitvavo (Netherlands) and Coinbase (Luxembourg).

How to Check an Exchange's Licence

Search the CNMV register of crypto-asset providers or the ESMA register by legal entity name, because brand names rarely appear. Kraken is listed as Payward Europe Solutions Limited and Crypto.com as Foris DAX Malta Ltd.

MiCA protection covers only the authorised EU company and does not extend to other group firms using the same brand, the CNMV warns. Its investor helpline, 900 535 015, confirms whether a firm is registered.

Exchanges Without a Licence in Spain

Binance has no MiCA licence anywhere in the EU. It withdrew its Greek application on 24 June 2026, and from 1 July Spanish users could no longer deposit or trade, although withdrawals still work. Our Binance restricted countries guide tracks the details.

Bitget's application in Austria is still pending, and MEXC and HTX are absent from both registers. The CNMV has warned against MEXC since April 2024. See our Bitget and MEXC restricted countries guides.

A licence does not always mean the service is open. KuCoin EU holds an Austrian licence, but the FMA still bars it from starting operations. Gemini closed all EEA accounts on 6 April 2026, and BingX EU's new Austrian licence does not yet include Spain.

The Travel Rule and Private Wallets

The EU's Transfer of Funds Regulation requires exchanges to send sender and recipient details with every crypto transfer, whatever the amount. Above €1,000 to or from a private wallet, the exchange must check that the wallet belongs to you.

Timeline of when each exchange was listed by the CNMV to serve Spain under MiCA, against the 1 July 2026 cutoff

Can You Buy Crypto Through a Spanish Bank?

Spanish banks now sell crypto directly, which suits savers who want Bitcoin beside their current account, but they charge more, offer few coins and often lock the coins inside the bank.

BBVA opened Bitcoin and Ether trading to all retail customers on 4 July 2025. The consumer group OCU reports a fee of 1.49% per purchase and sale, with no custody fee. Transfers out are possible but limited to other EU providers.

Openbank, Santander's digital bank, launched crypto in Spain in November 2025 with a 1.49% trade fee (minimum €1) and now offers seven coins. Renta 4 went live in June 2026 with Bitcoin, Ether and Solana at 0.65% per trade plus 0.25% a year for custody held at Cecabank.

CaixaBank and Kutxabank notified the CNMV under MiCA in March 2026, though neither has launched a retail crypto app. Revolut, which gives Spanish customers a local IBAN and Bizum, charges 1.49% plus a spread of up to 3% in its main app, while Revolut X charges 0% maker and 0.09% taker.

A Boerse Stuttgart Digital survey published in April found 40% of Spaniards would switch banks for better crypto investment options, the highest share of the four countries surveyed.

Bitcoin ATMs cost the most, with fees of about 8% to 10%. Royal Decree 813/2026, published on 8 October, makes identity checks mandatory on every crypto ATM transaction in Spain.

Fee on a 1,000 euro Bitcoin purchase at Spanish banks, apps, exchanges and Bitcoin ATMs

How to Buy Crypto With Euros in Spain

The cheapest way to buy crypto in Spain is a free SEPA Instant transfer to a licensed exchange, then a limit order on its order book.

  1. Pick an exchange from the CNMV list and verify your identity with your DNI, NIE or passport. Exchanges also collect your tax number.
  2. Send euros by SEPA Instant. Since 9 October 2025, Spanish banks must offer instant transfers at no more than the price of a standard one, and a free payee check confirms the account name before you send.
  3. Skip Bizum and expensive cards. No licensed exchange accepts Bizum deposits directly, and card fees range from 1% at Bitvavo to 3.75% plus €0.25 at Kraken.
  4. Buy on the order book. A limit order on Kraken Pro, Bybit EU or Bitvavo costs a fraction of an instant buy, whose spread reaches 1.80% on Bybit EU at weekends.
  5. Withdraw to your own wallet if you trade rarely, and keep records for Hacienda. Transfers above €1,000 to a private wallet trigger an ownership check.

MiCA also changed which stablecoins you can buy. Licensed exchanges may list only stablecoins from authorised e-money issuers, so Binance and Kraken removed USDT from EEA trading in March 2025. USDC and Circle's euro coin, EURC, replaced it.

Spanish banks are preparing their own euro stablecoin. BBVA, CaixaBank, Sabadell, Bankinter, Abanca, Cecabank and Kutxabank belong to Qivalis, a 37-bank consortium that received a Dutch e-money licence on 14 October and plans to issue within months.

Five steps to buy crypto with euros in Spain at the lowest cost, with card deposit fees

Crypto Futures and Leverage Rules in Spain

Spanish residents can trade crypto futures legally only through firms with an EU investment licence under MiFID II, and the CNMV caps leverage on crypto products sold to retail clients at 2:1.

Article 2(4) of MiCA excludes crypto-assets that count as financial instruments, so futures and perpetuals fall under MiFID II. A MiCA licence alone, such as Bit2Me's or Bybit EU's, cannot cover a crypto perpetual.

Spain goes further than most EU countries. A CNMV resolution of July 2023 bans advertising contracts for difference (CFDs) to retail investors and extends CFD protections to other leveraged products. For crypto underlyings, the initial margin cannot fall below 50%, even on a regulated venue, which limits Spanish retail clients to 2:1 leverage.

In February 2026 the European Securities and Markets Authority (ESMA) warned that perpetual futures are likely CFDs under EU rules, whatever their commercial name. Kraken, OKX and Coinbase advertise up to 10x for EEA clients, so Spanish residents should check the leverage their own account allows.

Offshore exchanges offering 100x to Spaniards operate without authorisation, and the CNMV has warned against derivatives venues such as MEXC, Phemex and Zoomex. Our guide to perpetual futures regulation and European futures platform ranking go deeper.

Leverage gauge showing the 2:1 CNMV retail cap and which exchanges hold MiFID futures licences

Crypto Taxes in Spain

Spain taxes every crypto disposal, so selling, swapping or spending coins can trigger a bill, and long holding periods bring no exemption.

Gains go in the savings base of personal income tax (IRPF), taxed at 19% up to €6,000, 21% to €50,000, 23% to €200,000, 27% to €300,000 and 30% above. Ley 7/2024 raised the top rate from 28% to 30% from January 2025.

Swapping one coin for another counts as a disposal under binding ruling V0999-18 from the Directorate General of Taxes, available in its rulings database. Units sold are treated as the oldest bought first (FIFO). Staking and lending rewards are capital income in the savings base, while airdrops are taxed in the general base at marginal rates.

Residents holding crypto with providers outside Spain must file Modelo 721 between January and March if the total exceeds €50,000 on 31 December. Spanish providers such as Bit2Me report balances and transactions themselves on Modelos 172 and 173. Missing an information return costs €20 per item of data, with a minimum of €300.

The tax agency's 2026 control plan targets undeclared crypto gains using blockchain tracing tools and data from Modelos 172, 173 and 721, and it plans a new Modelo 175 once Spain transposes the EU's DAC8 reporting directive.

Large holdings may also face wealth tax, which applies above a general €700,000 exemption, and the solidarity tax on fortunes above €3 million. Regional rules differ, so speak to a tax adviser.

Spanish savings base tax brackets with a worked example on a 60,000 euro crypto gain

Risks and Scams to Watch

The biggest risk for Spanish crypto users is fraud by fake platforms, and no compensation scheme pays out if a crypto provider fails.

The CNMV confirms this on its MiCA page. The Deposit Guarantee Fund protects up to €100,000 of cash at a bank, but not coins held at an exchange.

The CNMV issued 458 warnings about unauthorised firms in 2025. Its list includes clone domains imitating real exchanges, such as fake Bybit and OKX sites, so type the address yourself and ignore links in ads or chats.

In April 2025 the National Police and Civil Guard dismantled a network that took €19 million from 208 victims using AI-generated celebrity videos and fake advisers, then fake Europol agents who demanded fees to release frozen funds.

Exchanges get hacked too. Bybit lost $1.5 billion in February 2025, and Bitget lost about $387.5 million in September. Spreading holdings across licensed providers and using self-custody for long-term coins limits the damage.

Clone exchange domains flagged by the CNMV and the stages of a deepfake crypto scam

Bottom Line

Kraken is the best crypto exchange in Spain, pairing a MiCA licence with regulated futures and free SEPA Instant deposits. Bit2Me is the best local alternative, a Spanish company authorised by the CNMV with a free tax report built for the Spanish return.

Bybit EU carries our highest global score, OKX offers the lowest fees with an X-Perps account, and Bitvavo is cheapest for app purchases. Bitpanda suits investors who also want stocks, and Coinbase suits buyers who value a listed company.
