Key takeaways

  • 12 named jurisdictions: Fomo bars Cuba, Iran, North Korea, Crimea, Donetsk, Luhansk, Venezuela, Sudan, Libya, Yemen, Myanmar and the DRC, and its catch-all clause adds Russia, Belarus, mainland China and other countries that ban crypto.
  • US users get spot only: The United States left the restricted list in April 2026, but US persons, including citizens living abroad, cannot trade Fomo's Hyperliquid perps or Robinhood stock tokens.
  • The UK is quietly limited: Fomo's iOS app is missing from the UK App Store, and stock tokens are also closed to the UK, Canada and Switzerland.
  • No KYC, but VPNs breach the terms: Spot trading needs no ID, yet the terms ban VPN use three times and let Fomo suspend accounts without notice.

Fomo's terms bar anyone who lives in, holds citizenship of or is located in one of 12 named jurisdictions. Those are Cuba, Iran, North Korea, Crimea, Donetsk, Luhansk, Venezuela, Sudan, Libya, Yemen, Myanmar and the Democratic Republic of the Congo.

A catch-all clause goes further. It covers any country under similar US, UK or EU sanctions and any country where crypto trading is prohibited or restricted. In practice that pulls in Russia, Belarus, mainland China and several North African states.

Some limits apply product by product. US persons cannot trade perpetual futures. Stock tokens are closed to the US, Canada, the UK and Switzerland, and the iOS app is missing from the UK App Store.

This guide covers the full list, its 2026 changes, KYC and VPN rules, and the best alternatives if Fomo is closed to you.

Which Countries Does Fomo Restrict?

Section 1 of Fomo's Terms of Service, dated 17 August 2026, names 12 restricted jurisdictions. FOMO Labs, Inc., a New York company, issues the terms. They apply to anyone who resides in, is a citizen of, is located in or is incorporated in a listed place.

According to OFAC's own FAQ, only six entries face comprehensive US embargoes. They are Cuba, Iran, North Korea, Crimea and the so-called DNR and LNR regions of Donetsk and Luhansk. Targeted programmes aimed at named people and entities cover the other six.

US law does not require a platform to block every resident of Venezuela, Sudan, Libya, Yemen, Myanmar or the DRC, so that choice is Fomo's own conservative one. Venezuela is the clearest case. The US has issued a long run of general licences there since January 2026 and removed acting president Delcy Rodríguez from the SDN list on 1 April 2026, yet Fomo still lists the whole country.

Citizenship alone can also disqualify you. Under section 1, an Iranian or Cuban citizen living legally in Germany or Canada counts as a "Restricted Person".

Which Other Countries Fall Under Fomo's Catch-All Clause?

Plenty of countries outside the named 12 may be off-limits. Section 1 extends the ban to any country the US, UK or EU embargoes or sanctions in a similar way. It also reaches "any jurisdictions where transacting in cryptocurrencies is prohibited or restricted in any form".

Countries caught by the Fomo catch-all clause, with Russia and Belarus under the sanctions wording, crypto-ban countries such as China, Algeria, Egypt and Nepal, and Syria leaving the list

Russia and Belarus are the clearest cases. Article 5b of the EU's Russia sanctions regulation, Regulation 833/2014, bans crypto-asset services to Russian residents, and the Belarus regime carries matching provisions. Fomo names neither country, but both fall inside its sanctions wording.

In its 2021 global survey, the Library of Congress counted nine countries with an absolute ban. They were Algeria, Bangladesh, China, Egypt, Iraq, Morocco, Nepal, Qatar and Tunisia, and several have tightened since.

Mainland China has the strictest regime. A joint notice from the People's Bank of China and seven other agencies, dated 6 February 2026, bars offshore platforms from serving mainland residents in any form. For local options, see Coinperps' guides to crypto exchanges in China, Russia and Egypt.

Syria has moved the other way. Through E.O. 14312, effective 1 July 2025, the US revoked its Syria sanctions programme, and it rescinded Syria's State Sponsor of Terrorism designation on 24 August 2026. Fomo dropped Syria from its list in 2026. Robinhood's own restricted list still names it, though, which keeps Syrian users out of stock tokens.

How Has Fomo's Restricted List Changed?

More countries can use Fomo than a year ago, because its named list halved in 2026 as its products grew. Archived copies of the terms show four versions.

Step chart of the Fomo restricted list falling from 24 named jurisdictions plus the US to 12 in April 2026, with US spot, perps and stock token access over time

The terms dated 25 March 2025 excluded the United States alongside 24 named jurisdictions. Among them were Algeria, Belarus, Bolivia, Iraq, Ivory Coast, Liberia, Mali, Nepal, Somalia, Syria, Tunisia and Zimbabwe. Its catch-all reached sanctions imposed by "any other jurisdiction".

The next version, dated 27 April 2026, removed the United States and cut the named list to the current 12. Its sanctions catch-all now named only the US, UK and EU. Fomo launched its web app two days later, on 29 April 2026.

A perpetual futures section arrived in the 8 June 2026 terms, three days before perps went live on 11 June. In the 17 August revision, Fomo added the Robinhood stock token section. The same revision replaced the 0.50% minimum spot fee with one that varies by trade size, token and execution path.

Leaving the named list does not always open a country. Algeria and Nepal still ban crypto, so the catch-all keeps applying, and EU sanctions continue to cover Belarus.

Where Can You Use Fomo?

Outside the restricted jurisdictions, signing up takes an email address, Apple ID or Google account. You can then trade spot tokens on Solana, Base, BNB Chain, Monad, Ethereum, Robinhood Chain and Arc. Fomo publishes no supported country list, so the app stores are the best guide.

Fomo iOS app listed in 111 of 175 App Store storefronts, with the 64 storefronts that do not list it, Google Play and web availability, and the chains Fomo supports for spot trading

Apple's iTunes lookup service showed the Fomo iOS app in 111 of 175 App Store storefronts on 23 October 2026. The 64 storefronts without it included the United Kingdom, mainland China, Russia, Venezuela, Yemen, Libya, Iraq, Qatar and Uzbekistan.

Storefronts and terms do not always agree. The app is listed in Myanmar and DR Congo, both restricted jurisdictions, so a download is no proof of eligibility. Cuba, Iran, North Korea and Syria have no App Store storefront at all.

By 22 June 2026, Fomo said, more than 625,000 people had joined. That was the day it announced a $75 million Series B led by Index Ventures with Union Square Ventures and Benchmark, and The Block reported a $550 million valuation.

Download Fomo only from its official App Store and Google Play listings or fomo.family. Several unofficial sites use Fomo's name, and the company runs a security warning page about scam bookmarklets that steal web sessions. Claims of a $6 million iOS drain surfaced in August 2026. Fomo denied them, and no hack has been confirmed.

Which Fomo Products Are Restricted by Region?

On top of the main list, each Fomo product adds its own country rules. Spot is the most open.

Perps went live on 11 June 2026. They run on Hyperliquid and on trade[XYZ], which deploys HIP-3 markets on Hyperliquid, and they span crypto, equities, indices, commodities and pre-IPO names such as SpaceX. Fomo takes 0.05% per trade on top of Hyperliquid's own fees and funding payments.

Section 10 defines "U.S. Person" broadly. US citizens and permanent residents abroad count, as does anyone located in the United States. The terms also warn that equity and commodity perps may lack insurance fund protection, which raises the risk of auto-deleveraging.

Robinhood stock tokens follow two lists at once. Fomo excludes the US, Canada, the UK and Switzerland, then adds every country on Robinhood's restricted jurisdictions page, which names Cuba, Belarus, Iran, North Korea, Russia, Syria, Ukraine, South Sudan, Sudan, Myanmar and Venezuela.

Those two documents describe different products. Fomo's terms call the tokens OTC derivatives issued by Robinhood Europe UAB, a product Robinhood now calls Classic Stock Tokens. The page Fomo links to covers the tokenised debt securities that Robinhood Assets (Jersey) Limited launched in July 2026, according to Robinhood's quarterly filing.

Funding varies by country too. Apple Pay purchases go through Coinbase, and its headless onramp serves only US users with US phone numbers. Fomo's deposit guide adds that bank withdrawals "are not supported in all regions".

Can You Use Fomo in the US, UK and Canada?

US residents can use Fomo for spot trading. UK and Canadian residents face tighter limits.

United States

The April 2026 terms opened spot trading to US users, and Fomo's Apple Pay purchases are built around US phone numbers. Perps stay closed. Federal law requires leveraged retail commodity trades to take place on a CFTC-registered exchange.

DeFi protocols have already faced enforcement under that rule. In September 2023 the CFTC fined Opyn, ZeroEx and Deridex, finding that Opyn's US IP block was not enough to keep American users out. Coinperps' guide to crypto perpetual futures regulation covers the wider picture.

United Kingdom

The Fomo iOS app is not listed in the UK App Store, and Fomo gives no reason. The UK also sits on the stock token exclusion list. Since 6 January 2021, the FCA has banned firms from selling crypto derivatives to retail consumers.

That ban stayed in place when the FCA chose to open retail access to crypto ETNs from 8 October 2025. The UK's full crypto regime is due to go live on 25 October 2027.

Canada

Canadians can download the app and trade spot tokens, though Robinhood stock tokens are excluded. Perps are less clear-cut. Hyperliquid, which settles them, has terms that exclude Ontario residents along with the US, and Fomo's terms require users to follow third-party protocol terms.

Does Fomo Require KYC, and Can You Use a VPN?

Signing up and trading spot tokens on Fomo requires no identity verification. A VPN is therefore easy to use, but the terms ban it outright and give Fomo wide powers to act.

Fomo verification journey from sign-up with no KYC to perps and bank withdrawals, the terms sections that ban VPN use, and OFAC fines against Kraken and Binance

Privy, a third-party provider, creates and manages your wallet. Section 6 of the terms describes the wallet as non-custodial, and you can view and export its private keys. According to Fomo's security architecture post, keys are sharded and Fomo "cannot access, move, or freeze your assets".

KYC can still appear later. Sections 10 and 11 let Fomo ask for identity documents before you use perps or stock tokens, and its withdrawal FAQ says a first bank withdrawal may need extra verification. For venues without verification, see Coinperps' guide to no-KYC perpetual futures exchanges.

VPNs come up three times in the terms. Section 1 calls VPN circumvention "strictly prohibited". Sections 10 and 11 treat it as a material breach for perps and stock tokens, while section 16 bans disguising your IP address. To enforce the rules, Fomo says it may use geoblocking, identity verification and behavioural analysis, and it may suspend accounts without notice.

Regulators expect platforms to look past IP addresses. OFAC fined Kraken $362,158.70 in 2022 over weak geolocation controls for Iranian users. Its $968.6 million Binance settlement of November 2023 cited staff telling US users to use VPNs.

United States

For US perps, Kraken is the strongest option. Its CFTC-regulated perpetual futures launched in June 2026 for eligible US clients, through Bitnomial and Kraken Derivatives US.

Coinbase offers perpetual-style futures at up to 10x. Kalshi lists a bitcoin perpetual at up to 6x after a CFTC order of 29 May 2026, and Coinperps' Kalshi restricted countries guide explains who can use it.

United Kingdom

While the FCA ban stands, no firm can lawfully sell crypto perps to UK retail traders. Kraken and Coinbase are registered with the FCA for spot trading. Kraken's futures are open only to clients who qualify as professional.

Canada

Wealthsimple, Bitbuy, Kraken and Coinbase all offer spot crypto as registered platforms on the Ontario Securities Commission's list. The limits on leverage are set out in Coinperps' guide to crypto futures platforms in Canada.

EU and EEA

Kraken holds a MiCA licence for spot and offers perps at up to 10x through a CySEC-licensed entity, as Coinperps' guide to crypto futures platforms in Europe sets out. EU residents can also buy Robinhood's stock tokens directly in the Robinhood app. Coinperps keeps a list of MiCA licensed exchanges, and for equity and commodity perps like Fomo's, see the best TradFi perpetual exchanges.

Sanctioned and Crypto-Ban Countries

Residents of Iran, North Korea, Cuba, Crimea or the occupied Ukrainian regions have no lawful alternative, since every regulated platform blocks them. In mainland China, Algeria and other countries with outright bans, local law itself is the barrier.

Bottom Line

Fomo restricts 12 named jurisdictions, from Cuba and Iran to Venezuela and the DRC. Its catch-all clause adds Russia, Belarus, mainland China and other countries that sanction or ban crypto. The named list halved in April 2026, the same revision that removed the US.

Product limits now matter as much as the main list. US persons cannot trade perps, and the US, Canada, the UK and Switzerland are shut out of stock tokens. UK residents cannot even find the iOS app in their App Store. Spot needs no KYC, but a VPN breaches the terms, which makes a regulated alternative such as Kraken or Coinbase the safer choice where Fomo is closed.
